This paper argues that, far from diminishing, the possibilities for growing the market of retail investors by means of technological and financial innovation exist and will increase.  Market research has shown that the main inhibitors to growth are high cost and lack of convenience.  This paper focuses on where the pace of innovation has so far been slow but where the scope for imaginative application of new technology is wide.
